Geneesmiddelentekort.nl, the platform which helps to alleviate medicine shortages in the Netherlands

In 2021, Eureco-Pharma, Dutch parallel importer of pharmaceuticals, developed a new online search platform for pharmacists in order to alleviate medicine shortages in the Netherlands. The platform works by helping hospital and retail pharmacists to easily find suitable alternatives for missing treatments thanks to Eureco-Pharma’s cooperation with an international network of pharmaceutical suppliers.

The tool was developed while shortages grew up with 200% in the Netherlands between 2017 and 2021. On average a pharmacist loses 12 hours per week to solve medicine shortages. 70% of hospital pharmacists have to cope with missing treatments everyday.

How could Geneesmiddelentekort.nl help patients to get the medicines they need?

If we compare the figures of the first half of 2023 with the first half of 2022, we notice that the number of packagings sold increased with more than 50%. This important grow is due to the number of shortages which soar year after year.

Another factor is that the platform is now widely used by pharmacists who appreciate the help it offers in alleviating shortages and helping patients.
